There is just one day in a year in Poland when streets of towns and villages change for some hours. Altars-stations of Corpus Christi procession (Festum Sanctissimi Corporis Christi), built at night, come into being early in the morning. Each of them is different, most of them are built with hands and invention of parishioners. Sometimes professionals are hired to construct them. It is destiny and moment they all have in common when waiting for the procession to come over. I photographed the altars in this very moment – ready work that disappears from the scenery shortly after passing the procession to appear again in a year.
I started photographing Corpus Christi Altars in 2006 and kept working over to 2012. All the selected photos was taken in the Masovia region of Poland.
